El juego hab\u00eda nacido en el siglo VI, pero fue en el siglo XV, en plena Edad Media y no por casualidad en Espa\u00f1a, cuando la antigua <em>alferza<\/em> \u2014del \u00e1rabe, consejero del rey\u2014 cambi\u00f3 de nombre y de naturaleza: se convirti\u00f3 en dama y, al hacerlo, recibi\u00f3 un movimiento que la transform\u00f3 en la pieza m\u00e1s poderosa del tablero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La modificaci\u00f3n de reglas. Fue una declaraci\u00f3n cultural. A partir de entonces, la dama-reina adquiri\u00f3 el desplazamiento m\u00e1s libre en el campo de juego, el \u00fanico capaz de recorrerlo entero. Donde antes hab\u00eda contenci\u00f3n, apareci\u00f3 la iniciativa; donde hab\u00eda subordinaci\u00f3n, surgi\u00f3 el centro. El poema valenciano de 1475 <em>Scachs d\u2019amor<\/em> celebr\u00f3 esa transformaci\u00f3n al asignar a la dama los atributos del poder soberano: la espada, el cetro y el trono.
